You Just Want Them
Healthy
And Getting Better.
Being a parent of a young athlete is tough. I have two kids myself, so I know the questions you’re already asking yourself. And I’ve spent twenty-six years answering them for other people’s kids as well!
Three questions. About sixty seconds. It’ll tell you where to start.

Three Questions Every
Hoop Parent Asks.
How do you know who is actually a good coach? Anyone can post a highlight reel, but very few can tell you why they programmed something, or what they’d change for your kid specifically.
Are we doing what’s best for them? Because more training is not always the answer. It really depends on their age, where they’re at in their season, and how much they’re already playing.
But here’s the big one: how do we keep them healthy and injury-free? This is the question I’m getting now more than ever.
A Coach Who Is Also
Raising Two Kids.
Mike Robertson has worked with hoopers at every level of the game for twenty-six years, from NBA All-Stars to middle schoolers. He also has two kids at home who mean the absolute world to him, which changes how he answers a parent’s question.
Bigger And Stronger Is Easy.
Doing It Safely Isn’t.
Almost anyone can make an athlete whose never trained stronger. The real key is making them faster, stronger and more explosive all while keeping them healthy along the way.
Let them Develop!
A thirteen-year-old going through a growth spurt is a different athlete than they were four months ago. Programs that ignore this get kids hurt.
Load Is Cumulative
Practice, games, AAU, skills work and weight class all draw from the same account. Nobody adds it up, and this is when injuries tend to crop up.
Movement First
If they cannot control their own body weight, decelerate and/or land, adding extra load just adds risk. The “boring” work is what actually protects them.
Consistency Over Intensity
Two or three training sessions a week where they’re dialed in, focused and paying attention to detail beats crushing themselves in the gym five days per week.
From Parents, Not Marketing.
Mike at IFAST is one of the best in the industry. My son had a knee injury his freshman year. Mike was a big part of the rehab, strengthening, and preventative maintenance for my son’s knee.
Mike at IFAST is incredible at tailoring workouts to the specific needs of each athlete. He took the time to observe, record, and evaluate my daughter’s movements before creating her basketball-specific plan. This personalized approach has given her huge improvements in her strength, speed, and court agility.
My time with Mike and IFAST has been absolutely one of the best decisions I have made for my daughter in her overall athletic development. The relationship and trust we have built over the years is the best part.
Let’s Be Straight About
Who This Helps.
- Your child plays basketball and you want them training properly
- You are worried about injuries and nobody has given you a real strength-training program
- You’ve done “weights” programs or classes before and it didn’t work
- You want them doing workouts that will actually carry over to the court – not turn them into a football player or powerlifter
- You’re looking for a two-week transformation or “quick fix”
- You want them to follow the same program you used 20 years ago
- Your child isn’t willing to do some of the “boring stuff” so they can stay healthy
- You want a coach who only what you want to hear
The Questions Parents Ask.
How young is too young to start training?
The current IFAST Basketball Off-Season workout is geared towards 8th-9th graders and older.
However, we will be creating workouts in the future for younger athletes who just want to get started on the right track!
Is this gender-specific?
Nope! Both boys and girls have been through this program with great success.
What do we do about a nagging injury?
While all of my workouts are created to be safe and effective, always check with a medical professional (doc, physical therapist, etc.) before getting back into formal training.
Can they run the program during the season?
The only time I would run this during the season is if you’re not getting minutes.
Can I talk to Mike about my child specifically?
If you’re in the Fishers/Indianapolis area, I do have VERY LIMITED spots available for training/coaching.
However if you’re not local, I absolutely offer distance and remote coaching.
You can also reach Mike through the Contact page.
