Most Hoopers
Plateau.
You Don’t Have To.

Being a hooper these days is not easy. There’s stuff that looks great on social media, and then there’s stuff that actually works in real life. I’ll help you understand the difference.

Everybody On Your Feed
Is The Best Ever.

It might seem like every trainer or coach out there on social media is the best ever, and they’re getting all of their athletes crazy results. But let’s be honest. You and I both know that’s just not true.

The clips are real, but the results usually aren’t. What you’re watching is the one rep that looked good, filmed from the angle that made it look great, by someone whose actual job is making content – not coaching.

The real question

What Separates Players Who Keep
Getting Better From Those That Plateau?

Random work Intentional work Season 1 Season 4
Both of them worked hard.

Effort is rarely the difference, and most don’t plateau because they stopped trying. They plateau because the work wasn’t focused on what they really needed.

One of them worked with purpose.

Intentional and focused work to maximize your strengths and eliminate your weaknesses. This is the real difference, and it’ll keep you not only performing but healthy to boot.

The answer

“Intentional” Isn’t A Vibe.
It’s Four Decisions.

Every program I write is designed with a specific purpose. Here’s what gets decided before you ever touch a weight.

01

What Exercises You Need

If all you’re doing is squatting, benching and deadlifting, there’s a better way. Use the exercises that will actually carry over to the court.

02

What order it goes in

The order you do your exercises in matters. Speed, strength, power and conditioning – it’s all important, but the sequence is the real key.

03

What it costs you

Weight room and speed development should add to your game, not take away from it. if you’re feeling crushed after your lifting sessions, you’re doing something wrong.

04

What happens next

When you consistently stack workouts that are well structured, you see long-term progress that helps you move better and feel great on the court.

The off-season program

Twelve Weeks That Build Off
Of Each Other.

Three blocks, four weeks each, up to six days a week. Every block sets up the one after it, which is the real reason why this works and a random workout doesn’t.

Weeks 1 to 4

Movement & Mobility

Get the body doing what it’s supposed to do FIRST, before you ask it to move fast or lift heavy. This is the block most hoopers skip, and it’s why most players stall in the third one.

Weeks 5 to 8

Strength & Power

Build the engine. Real loading, real progressions, with the movement quality from block one holding it all together so the strength and power actually transfers.

Weeks 9 to 12

Explosiveness & Pre-Season Prep

Turn strength into something that shows up on the court, and walk into the first practice primed and ready, instead of spending the first three weeks catching up!

“His tailored approach not only has helped me gain noticeable speed and weight, but also added over 4 inches to my vertical leap. With his guidance, I’ve become more explosive, agile, and versatile on the court.”

“I’ve seen huge strides in my body, speed, and overall movement year over year since I started working with Mike in 2018. I can move so much better through my hips, create more separation coming off of pindowns and DHO’s, and have improved guarding in space.”

“I felt like my body has made drastic changes over the years we’ve worked together. I would highly recommend athletes to come to you in the off seasons, so they can realize how much just lifting weights isn’t that important.”

Before you ask

The Questions Every Player Asks.

Will lifting make me slower or bulkier?

Absolutely not!

Sure if you consistently lift too heavy, for too long, or make it a goal to get really huge, you’re not going to be as fast or explosive.

BUT if you’re doing the right things (like an IFAST Basketball Program) rest assured you’re going to be faster and more explosive as a result!

I’m 14. Am I too young to be lifting?

Not at all! The current IFAST Basketball Off-Season workout is geared towards 8th-9th graders and older.

However, we will be creating workouts in the future for younger athletes who just want to get started on the right track!

Is this gender-specific?

Nope! Both boys and girls have been through this program with great success.

Do I need a full gym for this to work?

Yes, a decently outfitted gym is ideal.

Can I run this during the season?

The only time I would run this during the season is if you’re not getting minutes.

What if I’m coming back from an injury?

While all of my workouts are created to be safe and effective, always check with a medical professional (doc, physical therapist, etc.) before getting back into formal training.

How much time does each session take?

You should be able to finish all workouts in 60-75 minutes max.

Can I ask questions while I’m running it?

Due to the amount of emails, texts and DM’s I get, it’s hard for me to answer every single question.

However, the best place to ask questions is in the IFAST Basketball Community. You can do that by following this link (yes, it’s free to join).

Can Mike coach me one on one?

If you’re in the Fishers/Indianapolis area, I do have VERY LIMITED spots available for training/coaching.

However if you’re not local, I absolutely offer distance and remote coaching. Apply for online coaching.
